저는 한국 음악을 사랑 (I Love Korean Music)

[The title above is read as "Jeoneun hangug eum-ag-eul salang."]

When you say Asian music, it contains hits from different countries in Asia: Thailand, Mainland China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and the Philippines to name a few. Recently, Korean music ruled all over Asia and the entire world because of their trendy fashion and unique music styles.

Few months ago, 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) was held in Singapore. I watched live online through Mnet’s YouTube channel from the start of the main show. While watching, I was busy posting tweets on my Twitter account. Korean celebrities from music and drama plus international artists such as Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Black Eyed Peas members Will.I.Am and Apl.de.Ap gathered together. I was very impressed with performances from famous Korean pop (K-Pop) artists like Miss A, 4Minute’s HyunA, Kim Hyun Joong, and 2NE1. Of course, I wouldn’t forget superb performances from SM Town Entertainment artists Girls’ Generation with their Korean-English remix of “The Boys” and Super Junior hits medley: “Superman”-“Mr.Simple”-“Sorry Sorry”. Because of this, I am a certified K-Pop fan.

After 2011 MAMA, I started then enjoyed watching Korean infotainment and music shows: Showbiz Korea (Arirang TV), Pops In Seoul (Arirang TV), Music Bank (KBS), K-Wave (MTV Southeast Asia), and Pop MYX K-Pop Edition (MYX). I got updated with what’s latest in Korean entertainment not only in these shows but also in reliable updates from GoKpop, AllKpop, and Soompi websites. In addition, I was informed by some Facebook fan pages and Twitter fan-made accounts. I’d seen a lot of rookies and liked some of them. Currently, I have a total of 65 K-Pop songs in my mp3 playlist from:
  • 2NE1
  • 4Minute
  • A-Pink
  • Big Bang
  • BoA
  • CNBlue
  • Davichi
  • f(X)
  • FT Island
  • Girls’ Generation
  • KARA
  • Kiss
  • Navi
  • NS Yoon-G
  • Park Shin Hye
  • Rain
  • SHINee
  • SS501
  • Super Junior
  • T-ARA
  • TRAX
  • UKiss

Of all Korean music artists I’ve known, I most liked the members from the label management SM Town Entertainment especially BoA, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, and SHINee. I have also biases from these K-Pop groups: [1] Taeyeon, Jessica, and Tiffany (Girls’ Generation); [2] Ryeowook, Siwon, and Sungmin (Super Junior); and [3] Jonghyun (SHINee).

Before, I didn’t like K-Pop music because I was a fan of a Taiwanese boyband Fahrenheit. Now, I enjoyed in listening several Korean songs from different genres. Perhaps, what I like about Korea besides their music is their culture, food, historic and modern places, and the people living and residing in that country. Indeed, there’s nothing wrong in listening or liking K-Pop, or becoming a K-Pop fan. Try listening few of their songs and you’ll like it. If not, just respect their style in fashion and music.

13th KBS Korea-China Music Festival 2011: China and Korea's Strong Relationship Through Music

Few nights ago, I watched KBS channel and saw that they were airing 13th Korea-China Music Festival. Artists from Korea flew to China to perform and participate in the festival. I hadn't watch it from the beginning but I watched it till the end. Chinese musicians proved to audience and viewers that Chinese traditional music lives on. I saw Taiwanese actress-singer Cyndi Wang sang her ballad song. A lot of Korean wave artists performed like Sistar, T-ara, UKiss, CN Blue, and Girls' Generation.

Indeed, it showed that the relationship between China and Korea is still going strong through music. Hope there would be Korea-Philippines Music Festival wherein talented artists from two countries mentioned share stage and showcase their world-class performances.

Kim Taeyeon: My First Bias in Girls' Generation Turns 23

from Girls' Generation's music video "The Boys"
Girls' Generation or So Nyeo Shi Dae (SNSD) -- they were not the first Korean girl group that I liked; but because of their recent track The Boys, I became a certified SoNe or SoShi fan.  I watched its music video all over again in music channels and Korean channels to do and remember those dance moves. Thus I also liked all of their hits: Mr. Taxi, Run Devil Run, Oh!, Genie, Gee, Hoot, So Nyeo Shi Dae, and of course, The Boys.

Girls' Generation's Comeback Performance in KBS Music Bank
That was October 2011, more than couple of weeks after my birthday when I saw their performance in KBS Music Bank. I noticed a member that can hit high notes and had same haircut as mine. Indeed, it was Kim Taeyeon -- my first favorite SNSD member. I searched about her on the internet and found out that she's the kid leader of the group. I described her as a bubbly cute girl with a unique voice and pretty face.

She's turning 23 on Friday, March 9th. I wish her happiness, healthy lifestyle, and continuous career success. Hope I'll see her in Korean TV drama soon, like her co-members Jessica in Wild Romance and Yoona in Love Rain.

Happy 23rd birthday, Kim Taeyeon!
