Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach's Confidently Beautiful With A Heart

"To be a Miss Universe is both an honor and responsibility. If I were to be Miss Universe, I will use my voice to influence the youth and I would raise awareness to certain causes like HIV awareness that is timely and relevant to my country which is the Philippines. I want to show the world, the universe rather, that I am confidently beautiful with a heart. Thank you," Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach's answer to the question Why should you be the next Miss Universe during Final 3..

"Confidently beautiful with a heart," Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach responded with no pressure during the last question and answer portion after Miss USA Olivia Jordan and Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo. It was the most beautiful answer besides having high online votes and competition performances from national costume to swimsuit to evening gown. After 42 years of waiting, she was crowned as Miss Universe 2015.

From Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach's Instagram: "42 years of drought and now it finally reigns :). Mabuhay! Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat!"

It was a dream come true for Pia being Miss Universe. But before her winning moment, she joined Binibining Pilipinas three times: first runner-up alongside Ariella Arida in 2013, top 15 list alongside MJ Lastimosa in 2014, and her crown as Philippine representative for Miss Universe. Pia was known as an actress in ABS-CBN and a model under screen name "Pia Romero" and a beauty writer in newspapers.

Since 2010, Philippine representatives in Miss Universe made attempts before Pia having that crown: Venus Raj in 2010 being fourth runner-up with her "major, major" answer during Q&A, Shamcey Supsup in 2011 being third runner-up with her "tsunami" walk, Janine Tugonon in 2012 being first runner-up to crowned Miss Universe Olivia Culpo from USA with her "cobra" walk, Ariella Arida in 2013 being third runner-up with her "ariba" walk, and MJ Lastimosa being placed in top 10 with her "dyosa" walk and her controversial national costume.

When it comes to beauty pageants, Filipinos are very crazy, most especially if their bets entered as one of the finalists. In the recent years since Venus Raj's entrance in Miss Universe 2010 top 5, few beauty queens stood up wearing crowns of different global pageants. Indeed, Filipinos are not only world-class in talent, but also in beauty & brains.

Here are some of Filipino beauty queens who are global title holders aside from Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach:

Angelia Ong, Miss Earth 2015
Ann Lorraine Colis, Miss Globe 2015
Trixie Maristela, Miss International Queen 2015
Bea Rose Santiago, Miss International 2013
Megan Young, Miss World 2013
Mutya Johanna Datul, Miss Supranational 2013

The coronation night was indeed controversial after the host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo as Miss Universe 2015 instead of Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. He publicly apologized and announced the real winner. He also apologized in Twitter to the fans of the two candidates. Miss Germany Sarah-Lorraine Reik was upset with the turn of events: dethroning the crown from Miss Colombia and wearing it to the right winner, Miss Philippines. "No one of us voted for Philippines. I’m so sorry to say that," she exclaimed but the Filipino pageant enthusiasts and the fans of Pia Wurtzbach are not happy of what she had said, thus netizens expressed their dismay over Miss Germany's statements, becoming "Dear Miss Germany" a trending topic.

A day after Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach crowned as the new Miss Universe, she tweeted in Miss Universe's official Twitter account with fresh-faced photo, getting ready.

From Miss Universe's official Twitter account: "My 1st day as #MissUniverse has officially begun! Starting it off fresh-faced and #ConfidentlyBeautiful"
We, Filipinos, are really proud of her. She really deserved the crown and the title. She failed twice, but she didn't give up until she was crowned as Miss Universe 2015. Indeed she's confidently beautiful with a heart.

"If there's anyone who should be a good role model when it comes to losing with grace and moving on, that person should be me. Who would have thought that I'd be following my own advice?" - Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach
